While I have 30 minutes to kill I thought that I would get in the habit of updating this thing regularly again...I know that no one really reads this but for those of you who do I am going to drop in a comment or two on the mass amounts of news I read on the internet every day. I figure that I am not going to have a job again that allows me to waste as much time as I do now so I should better make the most of it.
So the semester is finishing up here and campus is going to be a lonely place again. During the year I do have a lot to do but having the students around does make it enjoyable. What always makes me laugh is running into a student in town when:
1) your drunk and they are not
2) they are drunk and you are not
3) you are both drunk
In all other circumstances the whole teacher-student relationship is maintained and everything is as per normal. When you are drunk and they are not however, you are seen as creepy. While I have been called a creep in my day I think that it is just a common thought made by students...Oh my god my TA/Professor/Kindergarten teacher is hear...They shouldn't be here...So creepy. On the other hand when they are slightly intoxicated and they come over to say hi there is always the "I'm not usually like this" or "IM sorry I didn't study for the last test" or, from personal occurrence, which is totally out of the norm yet extremely amusing, a girl in my first year class comes up to me to chat last weekend while I was out with a few friends. We started talking and having a laugh and she says "I heard that you had never been to a pub before" and followed up with "are you dating an someone from eastern Europe". While I have been known to have a bad habit of gossiping, where do these things come from? There is always some small ounce of truth is most bits of gossip these 2 comments were so far out in left field all I could to was laugh. Yes I do have a girlfriend and yes I hadn't been to that pub in a while but where do these things come from and how do they get thrown into conversation.
While my days as a TA are now finishing up and I'm stressing about my thesis defense and getting my dissertation written and submitted before Christmas I really do have to appreciate my time here. Anyways I'm out.
