I read an article yesterday that made me reflect on Father's Day and began to think about all the things my over the first quarter century of my life. When I grew up my parents didn't make a lot of money and I really now understand the sacrifices they made for us kids to do the things we did and have the experiances many of our peers had. For 15 years Dad would get up 3-4 days a week to take us to our hockey practices at 6am before school. They spent their "free" weekends sitting for hours on end in hockey rinks all over the country and spending their savings on hotel rooms so us kids could try to be professional hockey players. For those years, when all they want is a thank you, we expected this our of them. I know that I didn't realize how hard they worked and how much they did of us. Now, when I am miles away from family, struggling to make ends meet and starting a life of my own. I really appreciate what my parents did for me. When Fathers Day (of Mothers Day) comes around remember those things your parents gave up for you and give them a ring...It's a small thing that they will appreciate and a lot easier than what they have done for you.
