So in NZ they have a habit of pooling state holidays together. In January you get 3 out of 5 short weeks and in March you get Easter 4 day weekend and then ANZAC day. For those of you who don't know ANZAC days is their version of remembrance/armistice Day. I was wondering the significance why they seem to schedule it when the rest of the world seems to do in in November. Well the reason is 2 fold. Firstly, is Gallipoli invasion happened in April where NZ and Ozzie troops were basically sent to their death, secondly is that the poppies for the November celelbration were late when the first armistice day happened in 1921. The logistics of sending poppies were late, 6 months late. Anyways I am taking advantage of these short weeks now because they are few and far between (only 1) until October.
Watched a few movies this weekend. On Friday Snarl and I went and watched V for Vendetta at St Lukes. It was enjoyable and I was entertained. Not on the same level as Spiderman, or X-Men. Got to see the trailer for the new X-Men and for a remake of Spiderman. Totally looks badass. Yesterday I added to my garden and did a little planting. I got some good veges hopefully going to be coming in soon. I planted a watermelon vine. Hopefully it doesn't go to nuts. I love watermelon but it takes 200 days before I get any fruit. They should be ready just when summer comes. Oh ya.
Last night Snarl and I were going to go to town but got lazy. We decided to rent a few movies. We got there and really couldn't decide. Ended up getting Saw 2, which no one other than me wanted to see. It was alright but expectedly not as good as the first. And "The Yes Men". This is a documentary I have been wanting to see about 2 guys going to conferences and doing TV interviews pretending to be from the WTO. Personally it was a little to socialist for my liberal self. I am in support of most WTO and free trade policies but I always like to hear both sides of any argument before my mind is made up. I am still and economist before a socialist, something my family likes to hide.
