So today was ANZAC day. I was going to go and watch the dawn parade this morning but it when I woke up a torrential rain was pouring down. I had my 2 minutes of silence in my warm bed rather than getting obscenely wet at 6am. The rain was pouring so hard all night it woke me up and caused me to lay awake in bed wondering if the garage was flooding. Gladly, only a small amount of rain came in, not the 3 inches that was there earlier in the week.
I was thinking of giving my flatmates a link to the blog but have opted against it. They are kinda frustrating to live with and if I need to have a rant I don't really want them reading it. I like the place and the annoyances isn't really worth causing a fight. After 6 weeks now I have realized that I am really not going to be good friends with them and they just want to do their own thing.
The boss took snarl and I on a Tiki tour around Auckland. It was really cool and we got to see the sights from a locals point of view. I now know that Auckland is built on a number of small volcano's (somewhere between 40 and 60) that have been inactive for 1200 years. The easy way to navigate the city is by knowing where the water and these old volcanoes are. The cool thing about these volcanoes (or hills now) is that the Maori used these little mountains as fortified bases and to live on. If you look at them you can see areas where the would carve out the mountain to have level landings to live on and where the built walls for protection. A lot of the hill have large blow outs and pits where the volcanoes have blown over time. I forgot my camera which was really disappointing. At least now I know where and what they are called it should make things easier. We went up a couple of these hill. One Tree Hill is one of the largest volcanoes in the area. One the top of it is a large memorial commemorating the Maori warrior and no tree. A guess a demonstrate a few years back chopped down the tree that was on the top and the Maori tribes and city can't seem to agree on what kind of tree to plant to replace it. So typical of any political process.
Also I am thinkin of making a few changes to the site and focus it a little. Lets see how it goes.
