Went and watched the Da Vinci Code last night and what an adventure it became. I drove across the city to watch at a big theater with comfy seats and where I could get a little shopping done before hand. I get there an hour early and find out that all movies are sold out. I was pretty pissed off because I got lost and wasted a bunch of tme and gas driving around. I took off and headed home and decided to stop into the local cinema that is about 500m from my place. I had suspected that it would be full because they only have seats for 50-75 people per screen. Well suprisingly I there were tons of tickets available and I wasted over an hour dicking around getting lost.
While I really wasn't in a good mood, I went in with an open mind, the same way I did when I read the book. While I think that there was a lack of chemistry between hanks and tautou the characters were well portrayed and it was entertaining. I really think that the critics have been a little harsh. The reason that the book sky rocketed to fame were the ideas behind it...not the story itself. Since everyone already knows those details, all that is left is a big treasure hunt like "National Treasure". Since the expectations to make an unbelievable movie over a treasure hunt could never be fulfilled...It is getting ripped. There is no way that Da Vinci should be getting a lower score on IMDB than National Treasure (6.5 vs 6.8). This movie is getting way too much flack, and if you want to see an enjoyable adventure movie to kill 2.5 hours it is worth it.
