Keg Stands and Mullets

Haha so last night me hockey team had our year end pary. All of the guys are done exams and were ready for a night of boozing. While my heart was into it last night, my head convinced me that I should not drink due to my upcoming thesis defense next week. While the boys were disappointed that I wasn't getting destoyed, they were happy that introduced them to doing kegs stands. Being 26 I haven't done a keg stand in years, and for some suprising reason, the guys had never even heard of one. While still being seasoned drinkers (as all Kiwi's are), and the majority under 21, they never experienced the thrill of a keg stand (if you can call it a thrill). As soon as I showed them how to do it, they guys were all over it like a dirty sheet. Since they all were a little bit drunk the repercussions (and concussions) of doing keg stands all night were thrown in the gutter and ignored until morning. Once I got the ball rolling these boys continued until the wee hours of the morning.

Massey Titans Highlights of the Year

1. Second Place in Lower North Island qualifying us to the National Championships
2. Only losing 1 game in the round robin with record of 1-1-3. Ok 3 ties is really gay but we kinda got screwed over...We scored against the eventual national champs with 30 seconds left to win. Goal was disallowed but EVERYONE knows it went in. Fans, players on both sides, and all officials except 1. That goal made us not get into the semi finals but we know we are the best 5th place team anywhere, hahaha. Well in NZ at least
3. 1 late night excursion to the strippers.
4. 12 cases and 4 bottles of whiskey consumed on the last night of nationals
5. 1 keg party which resulted in 2 concussions, 8 stiches, $12 worth of French fries, 1 frozen X-Box, an uncountable number of keg stands.
6. 1 mullet
7. A whole lotta shed

This past season was probably the enjoyable year of sports I have played since I was 16. It brought the passion for hockey back in me. I was a level where I had to work hard to stay in shape and brought out my competitive nature. While my days of living the dream are done, this season brought back memories as to why have played hockey for so long.

Some of the news that I have been reading about:

1. In the British Columbia provincial elections have been one by the Liberals. This is the first time since 1985 Bill Bennett Social Credit government that a Premier has won a second election. The nature of provincial politics in BC is very interesting. The lack of trust among the general population has caused for the popular vote to sway drastically between elections. While this is a repeat for Gordon Campbell, it has to be noted that he had only 2 opposition MP's as opposition. This election however was suprisingly contested by the NDP. For the next 4 years he is going to have to do some work this time

2. Conrad Black has been indicted for fraud. These charges accuse him of skimming $52 million from the Holinger newspaper empire. While he has been one of the greatest businessman of this generation his ego got him into trouble like the other leaders of Enron, Tyco, WorldCom. It is a long fall from the top of the empire he has created, and he deserves the punishment he is due to receive

3. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire comes out this week. This is arguably the the best book in series (contested only by the newest one). If you are a Harry Potter fan you are definitely excited. The story line starts to get a lot darker then the earlier books and movies. Its going be rad.
