Snarl and I went and did a little shopping last night. Well we wandered into the cinema and decided watch "Match Point". We had both heard good things about it and new that it had gotten an academy nod for best original screenplay. It also starred Scarlet Johansson who is the sexiest vixen alive right now. All and all I was thoroughly impressed. The storyline is about tennis pro Chris Wilton (Jonathan Rhys Meyers )takes a job as a tennis instructor and hits it off immediately with one of his students, wealthy young Tom Hewitt. Tom introduces Chris to his family and Chris falls quickly into a romance with Tom's sister Chloe. But despite the growing certainty that Chris and Chloe will marry, and the enormous professional and financial advantages that come Chris's way through his relationship with the delighted Hewitt family, Chris becomes increasingly intrigued and eventually romantically involved with Tom's fiance, Nola Rice(Scarlett Johansson), a struggling American actress. Their passionate trysts leave Chris in danger of losing the wealth and position he has now come to enjoy. Meyers is a total creep in the movie, similarly to the unintentional sleaze he was in Bend it Like Bekham. From reading some boards it seems like Match Point runs as a mirror to Crime and Punishment, something that I think I will read sometime soon.
