So I had a meeting today regarding this company that was wanting to issue an IPO. These guys are a start up infrastructure company that has developed a light passenger monorail. The business plan was good but they need 30 million to put in a test track. The money involved in this business is huge. To build a subway/monorail/sky train cost more than 30-40 million per kilometer. There has been a lot of excitement over the product that these guys have developed. The problem was that all I had in my head during the meeting was that Simpsons episode when the traveling salesman sells a monorail to Springfield and Homer quits his job at the power plant and becomes the train conductor. I had the song in my head that went Monorail...monorail...monorail. I almost lost it when my boss in some serious voice asked during a discussion about the engineering certification, "is there a chance the track will bend". You don't know how hard it was to keep a straight face...
Here are the words to my distraction.
Lyle Lanley: Well, sir, there's nothing on earth Like a genuine, Bona fide, Electrified, Six-car Monorail! What'd I say?
Ned Flanders: Monorail! Lyle Lanley: What's it called?
Patty+Selma: Monorail! Lyle Lanley: That's right! Monorail! [crowd chants `Monorail' softly and rhythmically]
Miss Hoover: I hear those things are awfully loud... Lyle Lanley: It glides as softly as a cloud.
Apu: Is there a chance the track could bend? Lyle Lanley: Not on your life, my Hindu friend.
Barney: What about us brain-dead slobs? Lyle Lanley: You'll be given cushy jobs.
Abe: Were you sent here by the devil? Lyle Lanley: No, good sir, I'm on the level. Wiggum: The ring came off my pudding can. Lyle Lanley: Take my pen knife, my good man. I swear it's Springfield's only choice... Throw up your hands and raise your voice!
All: Monorail! Lyle Lanley: What's it called? All: monorial! Lyle lamely: Once again... All: monorial!
Margo: But Main Street's still all cracked and broken... Bart: Sorry, Mom, the mob has spoken! All: monorial! monorial! manorial! [big finish] monorial! Homer: Mono... Doe!
