Got called into work today. A deal that fell through a few weeks back is now going again and we had to have a couple reports updated and ready to go for a board meeting on Monday. I still got my run in so I am not really concerned. I was going to do a little exploring of Auckland today but the weather has turned to shit so the motivation to go outside isn't really there. I'm going to a mates tonight for the great prawn extravaganza. It is going to be prawntastic.
Read a couple awesome articeles this morning. NZ and Australia have this wicked rivalry over absolutely. A conversation over rugby, cricket, Russel Crowe, and pazlova will almost always cause a bitter arguement. NZ really has a small man syndrome. Trying to always show up their big brother next door. In brilliant Ausie fashion someone in Australia decided to put NZ up for sale on EBay, "A country of sheep with average weather" was the tagline. Bids were up to $3000 before EBay pulled the transaction. Brilliant I tell you, absolutely brilliant.
On a different note, given the soaring commodity prices it has become extremely expensive for a country's treasury to produce coins. Canada ran into this problem a number of years ago and used steel coated with copper and nickle for the penny and nickle. However, for countries who did not switch it now costs 1.23 cents to make a penny, and 5.73 cents for a nickle. Given this, the Canadian governement has made a killing. The now produce all the coins for Thailand, Papa New Guinea, and New Zealand. This is a perfect example of comparative advantage for those international trade/economics nerds like myself.
